2. Adding a banner for your business to the Everything Exmoor pages
When you request a business directory listing you have choices. You can have a FREE BASIC Listing or a FREE ENHANCED Listing. To qualify for the enhanced listing you need to add a link on your web site in a reasonably prominent place, as soon as possible, to www.everythingexmoor.org.uk
You can then upload a 'top banner' a 'side banner' which will be selected at random from the pool of banners and displayed on the Everything Exmoor web pages. It is well worth taking the FREE ENHANCED Listing as it gives you a lot of extra publicity.
update: The visitor statistics for those with banners on their sites show it is well worth taking the ENHANCED LISTING. If you want to upgrade to an ENHANCED LISTING (all you need to do to qualify is have a link to Everything Exmoor from your web site see point 5 below) then email us explaining what you want and where we can see the link on your web site
One of the two major aims of Everything Exmoor is to stimulate business activity. The main feature I use to promote your business to the search engines like Google is the text you supply when you create a business listing.
Your business listing has two roles. Firstly it is to get you noticed by the search engines and secondly to inspire people to visit your site.
In your business listing you have space for about 250 words. I strongly advise you to use all 250 words and to write a lot of informative text about your business or activity. In this text you should include as many of the phrases that your customers might put into a search engine to find you.
Why would you want to go to the trouble of doing this? Given 250 words laden with the key terms that describe your business I can do a far better job of approaching the search engines to get your listing noticed. If your listing has only a short description and very few key phrase then you are missing a valuable opportunity to have your business promoted for FREE through Everything Exmoor
4. Linking from your site to www.EverythingExmoor.org.uk
Those sites with a link from their own web site TO www.everythingexmoor.org.uk actually seem to get a boost in their Google rankings. Perhaps because this is a Community site and is non-commercial Google sees the link as genuine and for the common good.
I strongly advise you to add a link from your web site to www.everythingexmoor.org.uk to allow you to benefit from this Google effect. In addition it entitles you to an Enhanced Listing status which means that you can add a free banner to the Everything Exmoor web site which has a very good effect at boosting your site's visibility.

Getting a web link and details of your business in Everything Exmoor
There are various ways that an Exmoor Business can get into the www.EverythingExmoor.org.uk web site - and all are FREE.
1. The best first step is to create a business listing via www.everythingexmoor.org.uk/Add_Listing.php This will give you a business description, logo and a link to your web site amongst other features and is well worth doing.
2. If you contribute a picture or text to any community page, such as the page on your local village, then you can include with it for inclusion your web site, name etc
3. You can send in the text for a completely new page for the web site. These pages need to be of general interest and not too specific to a particular business. Thus a page on 'gardening on Exmoor' with a mention of a landscape gardening business etc and web link to their web site is fine but a page about one particular landscape gardening business is too much like straight advertising.
6. If there is a particular page on www.everythingExmoor.org.uk that would benefit from having a link to your web site at the end, then let me know and I will add it in.
